Meet
the Director of the Indianapolis Jazz Orchestra
Jeff
Anderson's educational background includes degrees in music
from Morehead State University (Bachelor of Arts), Eastern
Illinois University (Master of Arts), and Ball State University
(completed course work for doctorate and Indiana State Teacher
Certification). While attending these schools, Jeff performed
in all of the top instrumental ensembles. From principal trumpet
in the Wind Ensemble to lead trumpet in the Jazz Ensemble,
his experience was both extensive and diverse. Jeff was also
distinguished as an outstanding collegiate musician by winning
"Best Lead Trumpet Player" awards at the Elmhurst
(Chicago), Kansas City, Ohio State (Columbus) and Aquinas
(Grand Rapids) jazz festivals.
A professional musician since 1976, Jeff has
been fortunate enough to experience just about everything
that the musical world has to offer. This includes: road shows,
studio work, backup orchestras for popular entertainers, musicals,
circuses, big-bands, jazz combos, and many other ensembles
of all descriptions. Considered one of the top lead trumpet
players in the Midwest, he regularly performs in the cities
of Indianapolis, Cincinnati, and Louisville. Jeff has also
been a commercial bandleader for many years and has led successful
private party and wedding bands since 1990. His newest musical
role is as artistic director and lead trumpet with the INDIANAPOLIS
JAZZ ORCHESTRA, Indiana’s premiere repertory big band
jazz ensemble.
As an educator, Jeff has directed instrumental
ensembles and taught private lessons at both Ball State University
and Eastern Illinois University. Besides teaching privately
in Indianapolis, he has since 1987 taught jazz studies and
directed various instrumental ensembles at Taylor University.
Jeff also is in demand as a clinician, soloist, and adjudicator
at high schools throughout the Midwest.
